    Itinerary (1 Session)

This itinerary provides a basic structure for a single art therapy session. Remember, an art therapist will personalize it based on your needs and goals.

    Introduction (10 minutes)

    • Welcome      and grounding: The therapist will greet you and      create a safe, supportive space. There might be light conversation or a      grounding exercise (breathing exercises, meditation) to help you relax and      focus on the present moment.
    • Goal      setting: Briefly discuss your goals for the      session. This could be exploring emotions, improving self-awareness, or      simply enjoying the creative process.

    Art Making (40 minutes)

    • Art      directive: The therapist will introduce an art      directive, a prompt or theme to guide your art creation. This could be a      word, a feeling, a memory, or a specific art material. Examples:
      • Draw       a representation of "inner peace."
      • Create       a collage reflecting your current emotions.
      • Sculpt       something that represents a challenge you're facing.
    • Exploration      and creation: This is your time to freely explore the      art materials and create your artwork. The therapist might offer      encouragement or ask clarifying questions, but the focus is on your      self-expression.

    Processing and Discussion (20 minutes)

    • Sharing      your artwork: Briefly share your creation with the      therapist. You can describe the materials you used, the process of making      it, or any thoughts or feelings that arose during creation.
    • Reflective      discussion: The therapist will guide you in      reflecting on your artwork. They might ask open-ended questions to help      you connect your artwork to your goals or experiences.
    • Insights      and takeaways: Discuss any insights you gained      from the session or what resonated with you most.

    Closure (10 minutes)

    • Summarize      key points: Briefly summarize any insights or goals      you want to remember from the session.
    • Next      steps: Discuss any action items or goals for      future sessions (optional).
    • Thank      you and goodbye: The therapist will thank you for      your participation and end the session.

    Additional elements:

    • Art      materials: A variety of art materials might be      available, such as paints, crayons, markers, clay, collage materials, and      more.

Check-in/check-out: The therapist may ask you to share how you're feeling at the beginning and end of the session to track your progress.
